Vital park and recreation legislation has seen important movement over the past couple weeks. The bad news? The House of Representatives introduced the "Improving Child Nutrition and Education Act" which could have serious implications on reimbursements for meals park and recreation agencies serve during the summer. The good news? The Senate has approved permanent reauthorization for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and the State Assistance Program has received its highest amount of funding in over a decade. We've got all the details on this important legislation below, but you can get involved now by thanking your Senators for supporting permanent reauthorization of LWCF

The U.S. Senate approved a comprehensive energy reform package which includes permanent reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The bill includes a change to the minimum annual allocation of LWCF dollars by requiring 40 percent to go to a "stateside suite" of programs.

Rep. Todd Rokita (R-IN) and other House Republicans have introduced the Improving Child Nutrition and Education Act. This dangerous bill would significantly lower the the reimbursement for each meal park and recreation agencies serve during the summer and would force many agencies to run their meal programs with less money than previous years.
