Serving Millions of Meals to Children


Nearly 17 million children receive subsidized or free meals at school every year. But what happens when school lets out? For years parks and recreation agencies have delivered healthy, nutritious food and provided comprehensive nutritional education programs through summer programs—feeding about 1.1 million children each year. Now, with the help of a $2.1 million grant from the Walmart Foundation, NRPA will support summer feeding programs of 15 park and recreation agencies each year for two year. The grants will make it possible for agencies to serve an estimated 4.9 million meals to children in 2010 and 2011.
