BECOMING AN AFO
The Aquatic Facility Operator
(AFO) program is designed for pool operators and management staff in
aquatic facility operation and management. Certification can be achieved
by passing the AFO Certification examination. The examination is fifty

- AFO course - a two day training program designed to educate individuals on the
systematic approach to pool operations including pool chemistry, management,
pool safety and risk reduction. To register for an AFO Course please visit the Course Schedule, and contact the hosting site.
Manual - a comprehensive training manual for AFO certification; reviews
organization, safety, risk management, filtration, circulation and control,
basic chemistry, and purchasing. The AFO Manual is provided with Course registration, or may be purchased online in the NRPA Store.

online preparatory course for individuals interested in taking the AFO
Renewal of the AFO Certification ensures that professionals
are knowledgeable of the current best practices in aquatic facility
operation and management. There are two different options for renewal of your AFO. You must complete one of the following options.
Renewal option 1 - Individuals
must successfully passing the AFO examination. This may be achieved by taking the examination (before expiration) in coordination with a Course; or by contacting a professional testing site and completing the AFO Exam Application.
Renewal option 2 -
Completion of 2.0 Continuing Education Units in the aquatic field. Download a list of applicable CEUs.
