One of NRPA's major initiatives in raising playground safety awareness is the administration of the Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) training and certification program.
In 1991, the first CPSI Program was held in Baltimore, Maryland. Now, two decades later, NRPA has more than 8,000 Certified Playground Safety Inspectors worldwide, credentialed to inspect playgrounds for safety issues and ensure each playground they inspect is up to current national standards, developed by the ASTM and CPSC.
