Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) Certification

Becoming an AFO

The Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) program is designed for pool operators and management staff in aquatic facility operation and management. Certification can be achieved by passing the AFO Certification examination with a score of seventy-eight percent (78%) or better. The examination is fifty questions.

Certification Renewal

Renewal of the AFO Certification ensures that professionals are knowledgeable of the current best practices in aquatic facility operation and management.  There are two different options for renewal of your AFO.  You must complete one of the following options.

Renewal option 1 - Individuals must successfully passing the AFO examination.  This may be achieved by taking the examination (before expiration) in coordination with a Course; or by contacting a professional testing site and completing the AFO Exam Application.
Renewal option 2 - Completion of 2.0 Continuing Education Units in the aquatic field. Download a list of applicable CEUs.
