Are Local Parks a Popular Spot for People of All Ages to Volunteer?

October 31, 2019, Department, by National Recreation and Park Association

Park Pulse 410

Four in five people look to their local parks and recreation for family-friendly, community volunteer opportunities. Three of the top volunteer activities include:

  • Picking up litter in parks and along trails
  • Planting trees in parks and along trails
  • Raking fall leaves for composting

Millennials lead the way in terms of volunteerism — 87% see themselves volunteering in any of these activities.

Each month, through a poll of 1,000 U.S. residents focused on park and recreation issues, NRPA Park Pulse helps tell the park and recreation story. Questions span from the serious to the more lighthearted. The survey was conducted by Wakefield Research.
