Park is part of national Parks Build Community initiative
Ashburn, Va. (October 3, 2016) — The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and Great Rivers Greenway, along with more than 25 local and national donors, are proud to announce the opening of Trojan Park, a new community park in Wellston, Mo., that was built as part of NRPA’s Parks Build Community initiative. Located along the St. Vincent Greenway on a once vacant lot, the new park will be unveiled on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. during the NRPA Annual Conference in St. Louis.
“We are thrilled to announce the unveiling of our seventh Parks Build Community project in the city of Wellston,” said Barbara Tulipane, NRPA President and CEO. “While this project represents our commitment to building better communities and making sure everyone has access to the benefits of parks, the work wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of our donors. We are thankful for their help in making Trojan Park a tremendous success.”
“Our community really stepped up to make this park a reality,” said Susan Trautman, Great Rivers Greenway Executive Director and NRPA Board Chair. “From local firms donating services to incredible community engagement and ownership, everyone is excited to see this vibrant park in Wellston, part of the St. Vincent Greenway, come to life.”
NRPA and Great Rivers Greenway worked closely with the city of Wellston on the development of Trojan Park. Valued at $2 million, the new park offers a variety of family-friendly amenities, including a state-of-the-art playground, basketball court, splash pad and picnic areas complete with shade structures. The entire community is invited to attend the park’s unveiling, which will include a formal dedication ceremony with representatives from NRPA, Great Rivers Greenway, the city of Wellston and others.
