December 2016: Maybe there will be a bike under the tree, a gift card for spin class in the stocking or some new camping equipment to unwrap at Grandma’s house. There is a good chance you might receive a gift associated with outdoor activity and/or increased physical activity. The December Park Pulse poll finds that three in four Americans plan to purchase gifts that encourage physical activity this holiday season. And there is no better place to use these gifts than at your local park or recreation center. So, go outside and give that new bike a spin at your local park!

Key Findings

Of those Americans planning to purchase gifts associated with outdoor activities:

  • The median amount spent on those gifts will be between $100 and $250
  • Nine in ten have children in the house
  • Nearly 60 percent of parents will spend $100 or more
  • Millennials and Gen Xers are more inclined to purchase these sorts of gifts over Baby Boomers (84 percent and 80 percent vs. 66 percent respectively)
