September 2016: With kids back in school, continuing the daily physical activity that summer provided becomes a greater challenge. A recent online survey conducted by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) finds that nearly all Americans (96 percent) believe children should have more opportunities to be physically active. Americans also agree that parks and recreation facilities are a great place for kids to be physically active.

Key Findings

  • 96 percent agree children should be given more opportunities to be physically active today
  • 83 percent believe park and recreation centers can provide opportunities for physical activity outside of school grounds
  • 81 percent believe more opportunities on school grounds, such as gym or playgrounds should be offered to children
