The Annual Survey of State and Local Government Finances collects data on local government revenues, expenditures, debt and assets for all 50 states and the District of Columbia. One of the local government functions assessed is parks and recreation. Park and recreation professionals could use this data to understand trends in local government revenues and expenditures for park and recreation services, and to compare support for other local government services (e.g., fire protection, policy protection, highways). These data could be valuable for benchmarking, advocacy and planning purposes.
