(June 21, 2016)

Trojan Park scheduled to open October 8, 2016

Ashburn, Va. (June 21, 2016) — The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and Great Rivers Greenway are excited to announce that construction is underway on Trojan Park, a new community park being built in Wellston, Mo., along the St. Vincent Greenway. Part of NRPA’s Parks Build Community initiative, the park is coming together thanks to the generous support of sponsors, national vendors and local companies alike. The new park will be unveiled October 8, 2016, during the NRPA Annual Conference in St. Louis.

“This is an exciting step in the process to transform a once vacant lot into a vibrant public space that will be treasured for generations to come,” said Barbara Tulipane, NRPA President and CEO. “The new park will bring together residents of all ages, creating a greater sense of community and opportunities for improved health and wellness overall.”

“Trojan Park will not only foster connections within the City of Wellston, but also with the broader community as it connects to the St. Vincent Greenway,” said Susan Trautman, Great Rivers Greenway Executive Director and NRPA Board Chair. “Residents of all ages are going to love this new green space where they can be active, enjoy fresh air, and get to know their neighbors. We are excited to see Trojan Park starting to come to life!”

In addition to Great Rivers Greenway, NRPA is working closely with the city of Wellston to bring Trojan Park to life. Plans for the park include a state-of-the-art playground, basketball court, splash pad and family picnic areas complete with shade structures. Community members are encouraged to attend the park’s opening ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at 10 a.m.
