Remember Why We Do This

By National Recreation and Park Association | Posted on December 18, 2014

Sometimes the holiday season can be a bit overwhelming. Sometimes it’s delightfully overwhelming with holiday parties, gift giving and seeing family members, while at other times, witnessing increased need or experiencing memories of those who are no longer with us overwhelms in a different kind of way.

With struggles for equality, health crises and violence regularly making headlines, it can be hard to “let your hearts be light” even amongst the twinkle and sparkle.

Thankfully, park and recreation professionals and those associated with our field have several reasons to find optimism, hope and joy this holiday season. Every day you make an impact in the lives of the community you serve and NRPA members, especially, can be proud of the work accomplished.

This year, through partnerships and programs, NRPA members have:

  • Connected 2,346,617 kids with nature
  • Served 13,390,417 healthy meals and snacks to children
  • Inspired 1,164,544 people to get physically active

Our wish for you this holiday season is to remember why it is we are in parks and recreation, why we do what we do every day and for us all to have a moment to feel proud of the work, the accomplishments and the significant impact being made.

The work you do matters every day and we thank you for fostering happier, healthier communities that serve all people.

Happy Holidays from all of us on staff at NRPA!
