Event Registration - Access Audits for Mid-Sized Parks and Recreation Agencies

Start Date:
Thursday, August 08, 2013
End Date:
Thursday, August 08, 2013
Federal regulations require that existing recreation facilities and park sites be evaluated against the new 2010 Standards for Accessible Design. This Department of Justice Standard includes, for the first time, guidance regarding recreation amenities such as playgrounds, golf courses, fitness facilities, swimming facilities, sports fields and courts, boating and fishing areas, bowling facilities, miniature golf sites, shooting ranges, and more. For mid-sized agencies with a gross population of more than 60,000 but less than 150,000, there are several ways to approach this mandate. Learners will be able to identify ways to evaluate existing sites for compliance with the 2010 Standards for Accessible Design at their existing recreation facilities, identify resources available to assist mid-sized agencies in completing self-evaluations and/or access audit requirements, andl be able to define and explain the economic impact of conducting access audits with their agencies.
