The NRPA and the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) have created a national partnership to provide a turn-key, child-focused soccer solution for park and recreation departments that can take an in-house soccer program to the next level or help start a soccer program from scratch.

AYSO Soccer in a Box is a collaborative initiative focused on helping park and recreation departments keep or expand their program offerings. AYSO brings over 45 years of soccer- specific management, training, and educational experience that can directly benefit a park and recreation program.

Benefits of AYSO Soccer In A Box:

  • National volunteer background checks
  • Centralized soccer-specific registration system
  • Unique administrative training and support
  • "Flex" programming with options for competitive play, U-5, adults and special needs.

  • Insurance availability
  • Summer soccer day-camp program

"What really worked for us was AYSO’s free volunteer coach training," explains Annette Hoepfner, program coordinator for the Colorado Springs (CO) Park, Recreation & Cultural Services who has used the program to provide more community services within very tight budget constraints.

"Soccer had been a hard sport for us to recruit – and even more retain --volunteer coaches. Now I had a free, age-appropriate training program," said Hoepfner. But what changed the paradigm for Colorado Springs was volunteer referees. "We were contracting out the service and it was costing a lot. AYSO had free volunteer referee training. It’s still new and we’re starting with U-8 teams, but it’s saving us a lot of money."
