April 2017: Initiatives that protect the environment are among the many activities that local governments provide for their residents. These initiatives can include sustainable or green practices, such as, water quality monitoring, green space assessment, environmentally-friendly buildings, and lawn upkeep.

An overwhelming majority (83 percent) of Americans say it is important that their local government prioritizes environmental initiatives. Strongest support for these initiatives are found among Millennials where 63 percent say it is extremely or very important.

 

Key Findings

  • Eighty-three percent of Americans believe it is important that their local government makes environmental initiatives a priority
  • Millennials are strong believers in local governments using sustainable or green practices (63 percent indicating extremely or very important)
  • Both Americans with children and without children show overwhelming support for local governments making environmental initiatives a priority (89 percent vs 79 percent)
