About the School

The National Park Maintenance and Resource Management School (PMRMS) is a three-year educational program designed specifically for park and recreation management, staff, facility and grounds managers, and entry level park staff.  The school is focused on maintenance management of parks and public facilities, and is geared toward public and private organizations.

Who Should Attend

The National Park Maintenance and Resource Management School provides targeted learning opportunities specifically for senior park and recreation management, staff, facility and grounds managers, entry level park staff, camp directors, managers and staff, park directors, managers and staff.
Curriculum
 
First year students:  Establish a baseline of understanding of the fundamentals of park maintenance and resource management.

Sessions Include:
• Park Planning and Design Workshop (double session)
• Sustainable Sites Initiative
• Identifying Tree Defects and Risk Analysis (double session)
• Assessment of Fields and Making Cost Projections
• Risk Management: The Insurance Perspective

Second year students:   Build upon the first year curriculum going into a great depth of specificity per each identified area of the curriculum.

Sessions Include:
• How to be Successful in Contracting Maintenance Services
• SHAPE – Improving the Appearance of your Parks and Facilities
• Site Management Techniques: A Parks Maintenance Perspective
• Soft Trail Construction and Maintenance
• Green Construction for Parks
• Update on Playground Safety Standards and Guidelines

Third year students:  Continuing Development. Learn progressive, new ideas, current park maintenance issues and trends. Each year new topics are features and case studies presented.
 
Sessions Include:
• Trends Round Table (double session)
• Motivating Employees
• What You Don’t Learn at NPSI
• Volunteer Programs
• The Gathering
