Park and Recreation Month 2011

Since 1985, Americans have celebrated national Park and Recreation Month during the month of July to promote the importance of parks and recreation in the U.S. This year’s theme is “Rock Your Park!” NRPA and its grassroots initiative, America’s Backyard, are promoting several great national initiatives, including a Five in July Park Pledge, a national "Rock Your Park" Flash Mob contest, and NRPA's 2011 July social media project.

Parks Build Community 2011
NRPA, with its grassroots initiative America’s Backyard and the City of Atlanta, and with contributions from PlayCore, Converse, the Health Education and Community Center of Atlanta (HECCA), and Superior International Industries, reconstructed and renovated Selena Butler Park through NRPA’s 2011 Parks Build Community project.

NRPA/NASPD Call for New Conservation Corps
In early July, NRPA and the National Association of State Park Directors (NASPD) issued a letter to every member of Congress proposing the creation of a Conservation Construction Corps—a national employment program to put Americans back to work and revitalize local, state and national parks in the U.S.
