Heads Up: Be Aware About Concussions

By Jay Tryon, CPRP | Posted on August 1, 2013

These days, you’ll find more and more research and information about concussions and the importance of providing and practicing good concussion management. With fall sports camps underway and regular season practices and games soon to start, it is a great time to get updated on these head injuries.

Knowing about concussions is important for any park and recreation professional not only because you may be administering active recreation and sports programs during which concussions may occur but also because you may work with parents, athletes, volunteer coaches and the like in your community who may benefit from knowing about concussions and best practices around prevention.

In this video blog (or vlog), Jay Tryon, CPRP, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department, interviews Rick Meyer from Central Maryland Rehabilitation Services on the management of concussions.

In the video you’ll hear about:

Tips to help identify concussion injuries;

Information and theories about concussion management;  and

Resources and where you can find more information, such as these provided by the CDC.
