ABC Collaborates with the National Recreation and Park Association to Recycle at the 68th Emmy® Awards

(September 22, 2016)

Ashburn, Va. (September 22, 2016) — Disney|ABC Television Group and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) worked together to recycle plastic bottles at the 68th Emmy Awards. Part of Disney|ABC’s Summer of Service campaign, the joint initiative included a challenge called Imagine Green where students who participate in out-of-school programming at local Los Angeles area park and recreation centers were encouraged to get creative by producing designs to reuse excess water bottles. The winning design, submitted by a twelve year old, was a multiuse garden planter and water globe.

Disney|ABC and NRPA had recycling bins set up throughout the red carpet and media center at the Emmy Awards. All used water bottles were recycled offsite at the close of the show. NRPA had an educational booth in the media center during the event to showcase the winning Imagine Green design.

“NRPA is proud to partner with Disney|ABC Television to institute recycling at the 68th Emmy Awards,” said Barbara Tulipane, NRPA President and CEO. “Furthermore, we are thankful for the opportunity to work with the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks — inspiring Los Angeles area youth to develop innovative solutions to one of America’s toughest challenges.”

A strong proponent of conservation, NRPA is committed to helping protect the environment through the use of recycling. NRPA believes that educating youth on the importance of recycling will help support a better planet — creating better outcomes for everybody. When youth understand how recycling fits in to the overall conservation of our limited natural resources, it grows their appreciation for nature and respect for the conservation of our public lands.
