New Tool Gives Park and Recreation Agencies Power to Match Offerings to Community Residents

(April 21, 2016)

National Recreation and Park Association’s Facility Market Reports give park and recreation agencies edge with key data, demographics

ASHBURN, Va. – April 21, 2016 – The National Recreation and Park Association’s (NRPA) new Facility Market Reports allow park and recreation agencies to examine key demographics and data related to the location of their facilities. Available exclusively to NRPA Premier Members and sponsored by Playworld, an NRPA Facility Market Report will look at an individual facility like a park, sports field or rec center, and examine the population around the facility based on specified walking or driving distance.

Not only do the reports provide key Census data like population, age and household types, they also provide insights into the activities and habits of the population served by the facility. A NRPA Facility Market Report will show the average amount of exercise residents get per week, participation and spending on recreation activities, social media usage and more.

“Local park and recreation facilities serve all people, and park and recreation agencies need to know who those people are in order to provide their community with the services they need most,” said Barbara Tulipane, NRPA President and CEO. “The NRPA Facility Market Report is the perfect tool to help agencies tailor their offerings and create facilities that thrive within their communities.”

With the knowledge gained from a NRPA Facility Market Report, park and recreation agencies are able to refine the vital services they provide and gain new or more frequent users of their facilities. By doing so, they further the health, conservation and social benefits community members get from local parks and recreation while increasing satisfaction with park and recreation offerings.

NRPA Facility Market Reports can also be used to help agencies make informed decisions about new facilities or potential markets and develop strategic plans on capital investments, helping them save money and inform the planning process.

NRPA Facility Market Reports are a free resource for NRPA Premier Member agencies and each Premier agency is allotted a number of reports annually.
