Leadership Roles

NRPA leaders provide guidance to the affairs of the organization. The mix of citizens and professionals from all areas of parks, recreation, and the conservation movement representing the public, private, voluntary, commercial, and industrial sectors makes for a unique and comprehensive voice.

By channeling issues, concerns, and solutions NRPA leaders bring state and regional issues to a national focus, and help to plan NRPA events and programs. Many of the following groups and committees are appointed positions with specific terms. 

Board of Directors Responsible for the formulation of policies that control and direct the affairs of NRPA.  Three-year elected terms and one-year appointed terms.  Please visit Leadership to learn more about our Board of Directors and its committees.

The Board of Directors Committees

One-year appointed terms beginning after the Congress event, concluding after the next Congress event. Appointments are made by Board of Directors Chair and Chair-elect.
 

  • Joseph Lee Memorial Library and Archives Committee: Advises the association and staff regarding the management of historical records of the association and its predecessor organizations. 
     
  • Public Policy Committee:  Assures national recognition of the national association as an effective leader and advocate for progressive public policies, legislation, and investments for parks and recreation.   

National Forum

Provides all NRPA members with an opportunity to bring local, state, and regional issues to the attention of the Board of Directors to inform and influence the direction of the association.  Network appointed positions.  Two-year term.

National Forum Committees:

One-year appointed terms beginning after Congress, concluding after the next Congress. Appointments are made by BOD Chair and Chair-elect. 

  • National Awards Committee: Facilitates the recognition of individuals and organizations whose activities have advanced the public’s appreciation and enjoyment of parks and recreation.
