Working with Public Officials

Local elected officials, such as mayors and county commissioners, are on the front lines of open space protection and increasing recreation opportunities. These community officials can be very helpful in capturing the attention of local newspapers and community leaders. They also typically have great influence with federal legislators. Two easy ideas for involving local officials are:


Get them to write a letter of support for the issue to your representatives and senators in Congress.  

Urge local officials to sign and pass a resolution supporting the issue. Send a copy of the resolution to your legislator.
